Overview:
| Kriya Yoga is a form of meditation that was taught by the gurus who practiced tantra. Legend has it that there is a yogi known as Babaji who is able to materialize himself at any time in any place. Babaji is considered to be the yogi who first taught Kriya Yoga. There are however many thousands of kriya meditations and a guru will usually initiate you into a group of practices that generate a progressive transformation of the mind from the intellectual personality into an intuitive spiritual consciousness. | | Description: | Kriya Yoga has a powerful influence on the awakening of a higher spiritual consciousness. The techniques are techniques of Dharana (concentration) that require awareness of the movement of consciousness and energy within the body and mind. The use of mantra and visualization is combined with the practice of asana and pranayama. | Purification of Nadi
| A nadi is the flow of prana and there is a network of more than 72,000 nadi's in the complex structure of the five pranic bodies. Only a yogi who has purified his body with hatha yoga and the mind with pranayama and Dharana (concentration) can grasp the deepest understanding of prana. Kriya yoga is for those who desire to be open minded and emotionally balanced in all three dimensions: gross (physical), subtle (mental), and abstract (spiritual); or dynamic, static, and abstract. When a yogi involves himself in the sadhana of kriya yoga he recognizes the interrelation of these aspects and will eventually come to that cognition which converts the wisdom of yoga into revelation. When the yogi is ready to go into the stillness of the mind kriya yoga is the ideal method. A guru must be accepted and a commitment to sadhana (regular practice) is the required qualifications for practicing kriya yoga. As the kriya yoga sadhana intensifies the need for hatha yoga is reduced and one will practice asana simply to maintain a supply body. The desire of the yogi is not at all directed towards the body but is very much attracted to the humility and surrender of the intellect. | | Guru: | Is the accomplished yogi who has direct experience in the sublime levels of consciousness is required for initiation into kriya yoga. Paramahamsa Satyananda is recognised as a guru who is qualified and he is able to transmit through his disciples to initiate students. Swami Yogasagar is a disciple of Paramahamsa Satyananda and is authorized to initiate you into the kriya yoga and mantra. | | Initiation: | There are 19 kriya practices that require 3 ½ hours to complete in sequence. Only serious students on retreat can attempt such a sadhana and therefore Swami Yogasagar has created a series of initiations where the entire system can be learnt gradually as students develop their practice. There are ten modules that can be studied by private tuition or as a workshop. Each module contains two or three kriya techniques which you practice for two months before taking the next initiation. | | Appoinments: | Swami Yogasagar offers the Kriya yoga initiation by private class. Your first vist will require a commitment of 2 hours and you will be initiated into the first 3 kriya practices. You then develop your kriya practice at home for 3 months after which you can book another appoinment to revieve the next initiation into the next kriya practices. | | Cost: | The first consultation will last 2 hours and the fee is R500. All future appointments will be charged at the hourly rate of R350 per hour. |
